How do I apply?

All applicants will hear from us by email or letter with an award decision by Friday 12 July 2024. Please remember to check your junk mail regularly.

The application process

You can apply for a Take a Break grant if you are the parent or carer of a disabled child or young person aged 0 to 20, and you meet our eligibility criteria.

Applications opened midday on Tuesday 7 May 2024 and closed at 5:00pm on Monday 24 June 2024. All applicants will hear from us with an award decision by Friday 12 July 2024. You may hear from us before the 12 July, as we aim to make grant awards as soon as possible to support you quickly.

This funding is limited, and priority will be given to carers who have not received a Take a Break grant before, and those who missed out last year.

  1. Please check you are eligible before you apply.
  1. Gather your supporting documents, we will need to see at least one of:
  • the most recent copy of your child’s education/learning plan, showing the support they are given at school, college or similar.
  • A co-ordinated Support Plan (CSP), Additional Support Plan (ASP) or Individual Education Plan (IEP) Wellbeing Plan or Getting it Right for Every Child Plan or similar.
  • a letter from a school (or similar) outlining your child’s current additional support needs and level of support needed.
  • a recent diagnostic or review report or education psychologist assessment, health and social care support plan, communication passport or similar.
  • a supporting letter from a professional / third-party practitioner who knows your child and can confirm their additional support needs and type of support they need.
  1. Register for an application. When you register, please wait up to 20 minutes to receive the automated email from us with your login details.
  1. Complete your application online and upload supporting documents. It will take approximately 30 minutes to complete the application form.
  1. You should receive a confirmation email within 30 minutes of submitting your application, please check your junk mail for this.
