We used our grant last year to purchase a Yoto Player and cards for our daughter, who is a wheelchair user. She has trouble using her hands to turn pages, and can find buttons and switches tricky, but she loves stories and music and loves to do things for herself. The Yoto Player has been an incredible part of her daily routine since it arrived, and a great companion over lockdown. In the morning she turns it on herself and listens to the daily podcast, and then switches to the radio. She very often puts cards in to listen to her favourite stories, and songs, or to do an activity card, and she shares it with her big brother to listen to longer books together such as James and the Giant Peach. We have even made our own story cards for her, and she’s recorded conversations with her dad about her favourite things, such as space, and can listen to them when he’s been working away from home. She can use her Yoto with no help whatsoever. It also plays nice sounds at night and helps both the kids fall asleep. It’s definitely one of the most inclusive children’s products on the market, and we absolutely love it. Thank you so much for funding this brilliant thing for our family. It has made a huge difference!
